Over the last week the world has watched the tragedy unfold in LA. It’s heartbreaking to watch people’s lives be altered forever, but amid the heartache and devastation the greater LA community and folks across the country are coming together and pitching in to help those in need. We are firm believers in uplifting our neighbors and lending a helping hand whenever possible. This is bigger than golf, and it’s our duty to pool together resources for those who have lost everything. We’ve gathered a list of organizations, programs, and resources, consider donating if you can, help continue to support and amplifying these initiatives.
The First Tee of Pasadena
Metalwood and Quiet Golf, two LA-based brands, have teamed up to put on a club drive to help replenish the lost equipment from the First Tee of Pasadena who lost most of its equipment for its juniors in the Eaton Fire. The First Tee is also accepting direct donations.
Deep Blue Sports and Always Alpha
The women’s sports community, including the LPGA Tour, is banding together to launch a nationwide essentials drive to provide toiletries, cosmetics, and feminine hygiene products to shelters and organizations helping those in need. Drop off locations can be found across the country, see below.
"LA Strong"
LA's TGL golf team, Fanatics, and the Genesis Invitational have teamed up to created special edition "LA Strong" merch, with all proceeds going towards the American Red Cross and the LA Fire Department Foundation.
Puppies and Golf
Journalist and broadcaster Amanda Balionis' non profit Puppies and Golf is chipping in to provide support to by hosting a community block party on January 21 in San Diego.
Compton CC Donation Drive
Today, January 15, the Compton CC Initiative is hosting a donation drive at St. Albert The Great Middle School from 5 to 8pm.
Libraries are wonderful communities resources in general, but especially during times of need. The LA Public Library is open and accessible to all; and it has an online hub updated for specific locations and lists out categories of resources. For anyone looking to stay up to date fire department alerts, where to get survival kits, or just need a place of solace check the LAPC website for updates.
Some donation drops offs may be too overwhelmed with demand, the LA Community Fridge is an organization dedicated to helping those who suffer with food insecurity. If you have food, drinks or personal care products, you can take them to one of the 15 fridges across LA—and they are open 24 hours.
The LAFD Foundation is looking for support and donations to help local LAFD firefighters and equip them with equipment and supplies to help battle the wildfires.
The Red Cross is at the heart of most disaster reliefs efforts around the country, providing aide like food and shelter, blood services, mental health support, and financial assistance. Consider making a direct financial donation, blood donation, or if you're in and around LA, volunteer your time and services if you're able.
Direct Relief’s wildfire response fund directly support efforts to assist individuals impacted by fires in Palisades, Altadena, and across California, providing N95 respirators, personal care kits for evacuees, and distributing medications where its needed most.
